Who are Information Systems?
Information Systems is a part of MG Group Operations which supports the wider MG business with a range of services.
Technology plays a vital role in the success of our business here at MG. The Information Systems Department is responsible for developing, integrating and maintaining the critical software and technology that underpins MG operations and strategy.
Departments include:
- Application Support - This team is responsible for the support and maintenance of the strategic business applications across a wide range of platforms and diverse skill profiles. We are responsible for the analysis of problems and issues relating to business processes, system processing, transactional and static data and issue/problem management including defining actions for other areas. We are split into 4 teams, covering Front Office, Integration, Back Office and business process support.
- Development - MG employs Technical Designers and Developers, who are focused on projects. Given the size and complexity of our systems, we require people with a wide range of technical skills, though increasingly we are focusing on JAVA, Oracle, XML and .Net. Within MG, we split our technical staff into 2 teams; the Development Team tends to work on larger projects and uses JAVA, Oracle and XML whereas the Rapid Application Team focus on smaller projects using .NET, Excel, Sharepoint etc.
- Technical Strategy - This team establishes strategic directives, provides support for IS BC analysts and designers, helps in the management of project approval process, reviews all system specifications/designs to ensure that they are in line with strategic directives. The Team Contains experts in the technologies we use.
- Release Management - This team provides an independent review and test of changes and ensures that each change item meets our quality criteria before it is allowed to be put into production. The team manages a controlled user acceptance testing environment and handles the implementation into this environment and production. Release Management is divided into three practice areas as follows:
* Release Control - Manage the overall process and the implementation of change into test and production environments.
* Configuration Management - Build and maintain the test environments and physically promote change into these environments.
* Testing - Manage the test process and help the users in carrying out testing.
What is the role of a Graduate Developer?
A Developer designs and builds software to meet the needs of the business, collaborating closely with users and business analysts to turn functional requirements into working solutions. The role is both challenging and rewarding. As a new Graduate you will work alongside talented and enthusiastic individuals, playing a core role in delivering projects whilst developing your technical skills and gaining insight and understanding of the MG business. This scheme sits alongside MG’s Investment and Business Management Graduate Schemes to ensure that all of our graduates gain the broadest possible experience in their early years with the company.
You will gain first hand experience in using industry standard and state of the art technology in a creative and challenging environment.
Over the course of the 18 month scheme we will provide you with the opportunity to explore the way the MG business is run, interact with people in all departments and at all levels, allowing you to develop a wide range of skills and competencies within your chosen area.
