Japenese Equity Analyst recruitment

Summary of key responsibilities

• Working on the Japan desk researching investment opportunities, principally in the listed equity market

• Reporting to two senior members on the Japanese desk with excellent opportunities for career progression

• Under the guidance of the Research Analysts, conduct analysis of specific companies, and industries that are identified by the research team as potential investment opportunities

• This will entail detailed financial analysis of available data, including Annual Reports Accounts, quarterly earnings statements, industry and competitor reports, etc., with a view to developing a view of the company’s prospects and how it should be valued.

• Such analysis will involve developing contacts with sell side analysts, company meetings, a thorough knowledge of company accounts and other information sources and a detailed understanding of various valuation techniques.

• Assist in the preparation of Research Notes, and presentations at the Investment Meeting, or directly to Investment Directors and Managers.

Person Specification

• A dedicated professional who wants to succeed in investment management

• Excellent academic record

• Ideally qualifications related to financial analysis even if these are not yet completed.

• Graduate with 2 – 3 years’ experience of financial analysis, gained in equity research (buy or sell-side), a consultancy, market research, private equity, or investment banking environment.

• Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to present confidently to a large group of experienced investors

• A team player with excellent people as well as problem solving skills

• An enquiring mind and a passion for investing

• A broader interest in the politics and culture of Japan

• Knowledge of the Japanese language is not necessary but an interest and ability to adapt to an international environment is essential.

• The ability to process and prioritise large amounts of information

• Willingness to spend eight weeks or more a year on trips to Japan

• Highly developed skills in Microsoft Office applications

• Knowledge of Factset and Bloomberg a plus.
