Java Developer (Interactive Web Mapping)

 

My Client is an environmental geospatial services company specialising in environmental modelling, GIS and environmental information consultancy.

They are currently undertaking work for a variety of public sector clients and currently has a vacancy for a Java Developer to work in their Kent based office.

They are looking for an experienced and well-motivated Java website developer, who has a solid technical grounding and proven ability in web design and development, web security and authentication, interactive mapping APIs, database design and implementation and data management.

Your role will be to….design and develop secure websites which will also include database components and interactive mapping functionality for the display and examination of geographical information. You’ll also maintain and update websites which were developed using a GWT framework. These applications contain an ftp and forum functionality as well as interactive mapping and database components.

Skills and Attributes

• Proactive, methodical and self-motivated with a good eye for detail.

• Website development using HTML, CSS, SQL and Java in a mashup environment using appropriate technologies such as GWT and SpringSource.

• Knowledge of the development and implementation of restricted-access login websites using appropriate technologies.

• Experience of implementing databases in a web environment using PostgreSQL.

• The development of interactive web mapping applications using OpenLayers and Google Maps APIs to display information served via WMS feeds.

• Server administration and management.

• Additional skills that will be useful:

o GeoServer / Mapserver knowledge

o An understanding of Ordnance Survey and other UK data products.

o Experience using ArcGIS 9x desktop products and extensions.
