RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure quality of all edited material by reviewing material edited by vendors for accuracy and consistency.
- Manage process and relationship between IEEE and vendor on assigned journals.
- Review authors alterations for appropriateness and for adherence to IEEE house editorial style. Check accuracy of implemented changes.
- Communicate with volunteer EICs, editorial offices, and/or Guest Editors about receipt of materials (e.g., articles, issues).
- Assist authors with every aspect of the production process, including use of IEEE’s Digital Toolbox.
- Be accountable for ensuring complete delivery of final publication materials from the outsource vendors (e.g., XML meta-data, print PDF, Xplore PDF, etc.) and multimedia files, which are handled inhouse.
- Manage production schedules and prioritize workload in order to meet timeliness metrics.
- Work with Managing Editors to ensure a high level of quality of journals.
- Provide status information to department management, other staff, volunteers, and authors as required.
- Assist Managing Editors in training and development of new editorial staff, including, but not limited to editorial quality checks at both article and issue levels.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The minimum educational requirement is a Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or Communications.
- Strong communication and grammatical skills, as well as a minimum 5 years of technical editing experience, are required.
- Experience in reading and parsing mathematical statements and expressions is preferred. Must be capable of exercising sound judgment when interfacing with authors, editors, society officers, and other members of IEEE staff.
- Excellent organizational skills, the capability to edit a large volume of pages per year on one or more publications, and the ability to meet tight/multiple deadlines is required.
- He or she must be a technologically savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges and applies the benefits of technology to his or her work environment.
- Proficiency in word processing and database systems required.
- Knowledge of xml tagging markup language is a plus.
