My client is a large financial organisation looking for a bright graduate to work on an application support team. You must have a 2.1 from a top university. Expertise in one programming language, a scripting language and knowledge of Windows and Linux are desired.

Responsibilities:

Owning and investigating a wide variety of issues at both an application and database level.

Producing robust, well-written solutions for these issues.

Deployment of fixes to both test live environments, depending on defined Operator process.

Effectively communicating investigation status to the Operator

Escalating issues appropriately to ensure quick resolution

Liaising with the development and problem mgmt teams as appropriate to resolve issues

The candidate must have:

Experience in an application support/incident mgmt role, with proven record of technical investigation and creating solutions to problems

A bachelor's degree (1st or 2:1) in computer science, engineering, or information systems from a well regarded university (maths/physics also accepted if there is evidence of programming experience).

Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.

Strong fundamental programming skills (data structures, algorithms). Someone who likes tackling problems is more important than specific languages.

Demonstrable talent programming in at least one major language (Java, J2EE, C, C++, etc.)

An ability to learn new technologies quickly. The ideal candidate would also have ? Familiarity developing on Unix/Linux.

Experience with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) website design

Website development skills HTML, HTML5 and CSS

Web technologies and Internet protocols (XML, HTTP, TCP/IP) ? Experience using version control systems (Subversion, CVS, etc.)

Scripting skills: Perl, Python, JavaScript
