Junior Researcher
Based in Singapore, this is a pure research role.
It sits in a centralised research function that works with their global investment professionals to support all research needs that might span across countries, sectors and themes of equity products. This is an exciting role for someone who is highly passionate in research and has the flair and confidence to interact with a global community of professional money managers.
Role summary: Demonstrates full knowledge level in assigned area and works under direction only as needed. Ability to work independently or in a group to help portfolio managers and investment analysts with research project. Prepares and update financial models, assembles and reviews data, conducts statistical analyses and researches industry groups and individual securities. Prepares internal presentations and summaries of investment meetings.
Primary responsibilities/essential functions:
- Conducts research and analysis to aid PMs / Analysts investment process.
- Creates and maintains a variety of computer spreadsheets and financial models (company, industry/sector, macro/country financial models).
- Collects industry and company data through a variety of channels, including sell-side research firms, internal and external databases, trade publications, online sources, regulatory filings and sometimes interviews with industry sources.
- Reviews and organizes data, synthesizes information, identifies trends and helps portfolio managers and investment analysts to analyze and interpret company and industry data and trends.
- Prepares background research.
- Determines how to best analyze data and identify trends.
- Prepares internal presentations and summaries of investment meetings.
- Writes summaries for periodic investment meetings.
- Takes notes and writes summaries of information shared at company sponsored events, retreats, presentations, conferences and meetings occasionally.
- May work with portfolio managers and investment analysts to prepare internal presentations or write company summaries and background pieces for investment reports.
- Assist portfolio managers and investment analysts to produce periodic portfolio reports.
- Works on special research projects as needed to help support investment professionals.
- Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.
Skills/qualifications:
- The right candidate should come with 2-4 years of experience in equity research, data gathering and analyses experience in a financial institution and most importantly, demonstrate a strong passion for research as a career in the near term
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of investments and financial analysis. Exhibits knowledge in current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology and information affecting area of coverage.
- Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and analytical skills in areas of high complexity.
- Demonstrates initiative by identifying issues and recommending solutions on complex and broad matters.
- Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills with a diverse group of associates, portfolio managers and investment analysts within and outside the organization.
- Demonstrates ability to collaborate and develop/maintain relationships inside and outside the organization to enable effective completion of business objectives.
- Candidates currently studying CFA will be high advantageous
