Junior Shipbroker recruitment
EDF Man Shipping Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of EDF Man Holdings Limited and was formed in 1983. The business has expanded rapidly and today the company runs a fleet of between 25 and 35 handymax bulk carriers and carries approximately 12-14 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo around the world per annum. The company is actively involved in ship broking with a large number of direct clients in the dry bulk market.
We are now actively seeking to recruit a trainee with a shipping related qualification or relevant shipping experience, who is keen to train as a Shipbroker. The successful candidate will be committed to a career in chartering with a desire to learn all aspects of the business, beginning with the basics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Researching the market and supporting senior brokers.
- Liaising with Ship Owners and Chartering Clients; building up contacts and new business.
- Assisting with daily market reports and providing information to clients.
- Entering tonnage figures onto the Company database and other administrative duties.
- Assisting with the fixing of ships for a specific market in a ‘narrow’ field.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- A degree or other qualification in a shipping related subject.
- An interest in shipping is essential and a candidate with some previous shipping work experience would be preferred.
- A team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to act on own initiative – must be highly pro-active.
- Organised and methodical with strong commercial acumen.
- IT literate.
- Must be able to multi-task and prioritise.
- Must be willing to start early and stay late when required
