Laboratory Assistant Job in Santa Fe, New Mexico US

License/Certification/Education: Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent w/1-2 years of experience.

Job Description:

Performs all paperwork, technical, and non-technical procedures required to process and submit specimens. Assigns specific computer generated identification numbers, checks for accuracy, and records all items processed. Forwards accessioned specimens to designated laboratory location(s); and locating and correcting any discrepancies. Learns and keeps familiar with lab procedures and location of stored specimens. Locates specimens and pulls from various departments as requested.

1. Slide Archive- Facilitate the cleaning, archiving, retrieval and disposal of all patient slides for cytogenetic laboratories. Maintain slide trays for cytogenetic personnel.

2. Solution Preparation- Prepare basic laboratory solutions for Quality Control and laboratory operations. Will include the stocking and cleaning of the solution preparation rooms in both laboratory buildings.

3. Laboratory Equipment / Instrumentation: Perform daily performance monitors of all equipment in accordance with SOP requirements. Recognize deviations from the standard or normal results. Clean equipment as outlined in users' manuals or SOP. Adjust or calibrate equipment according to users manual or SOP. Inform process / equipment owner of any issue that could compromise results.

4. Lab Support Services: Prepare media, perform and read sterility checks, wash labware, water testing, EHS support as required.

5. Change Control and Validation Studies: Assist, facilitate or conduct validation of changes (Change Control) as needed for QC impact areas only; media, reagents and basic laboratory instrumentation.

6. Annual SOP Review: Assist, facilitate the annual review of Quality Control procedures.

7. Materials Management: Maintain awareness of inventory of key materials supplies. Place and receive orders in accordance with procurement specifications. Keep cost containment in mind when placing orders and during vendor transition.

8. Policies and Procedures: Adhere to all company procedures and polices.

9. Special Projects: As directed by QC Lead, Manager, Supervisor, or Site SLT.
