Laboratory Manager

The Laboratory Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring the laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) reflect current Good Manufacturing Processes (cGMPs) and comply with federal and state regulatory agencies, where applicable. The Lab Manager is ultimately responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of laboratory testing, recording, reviewing of results, manufacturing and labeling of blood products and ensuring that product safety, quality, identification, potency and purity meets or exceeds industry standards.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and maintains SOPs to ensure cGMPs are followed and processes comply with federal and state regulatory agencies, where applicable.
- Develops and implements validation protocols.
- Develops and manages budget for the department and takes appropriate action to ensure goals and objectives are met.
- Evaluates laboratory equipment and supplies and makes purchasing recommendations to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
- Maintains sufficient inventory levels of disposable supplies, maximizes cost-effectiveness and ensures efficient utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Provides technical guidance to appropriate internal departments on new and existing processes affecting the laboratory and product safety, quality, potency and purity.
- Manages error/accident reporting, conducts root-cause analysis, and ensures appropriate corrective and preventative actions are taken.
- Manages document control functions to ensure accuracy and completeness of manufacturing records, takes corrective and preventative actions as necessary and documents incidents when they occur.
- Know, follow and enforce safety rules relative to area(s) of responsibility.
Education, Experience and Licensure
- 5 + years laboratory experience required.
- 3 + years supervisory experience required.
- Previous blood center operations experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, physical, medical technology or clinical laboratory science required.
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist license (State of California) required.
- American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certificate preferred.
- Specialist Blood Banking (SBB) certificate preferred.
