Laboratory Manager Job

Location:  Qatar, Middle East                                                                                                           

                                                                                                          

An experienced laboratory manager is urgently required to implement a biomedical research programme focusing on chronic diseases in Qatar.  As laboratory manager you would be initially required to set up a temporary clinic to assess blood samples of a small number of participants per day (gradually increasing).  This is a pioneering collaboration between a prestigious UK university and a research centre in Qatar to provide an internationally competitive platform for conducting research to investigate major diseases.

 

Whilst this position is initially offered on a 4-6 month contract, funding is already secured for two years.

 

Key Responsibilities:

·         Work with the Qatar team to develop strategic plans for the provision and delivery of laboratory services, including forecasting of space, staff and equipment needs in the future as the project develops, and participate in design, development and delivery of the project in Qatar as it moves from temporary to dedicated facilities.

·         Prepare and optimize the laboratory protocols and all other study related materials (such as laboratory SOPs, training manuals) required for the various pilot phases

·         Develop a programme that will meet the quality management, accreditation and certification requirements of the laboratory and implement refinements to the laboratory processes to optimise the study visit during the pilot phase.

·         Prepare the Service Level Agreement for laboratory analysis with the third party provider and develop all protocols and procedures until appropriate Laboratory facilities are available.

·         Negotiate staffing levels, shifts and other working arrangements as appropriate to ensure the efficient operation of the Laboratory.

 

Education/Qualifications:

·         A degree or professional, vocational equivalent in a relevant biomedical/biological discipline.

·         Accreditation or equivalent, from a recognised international body overseeing the professional credentials of clinical laboratory scientists, technicians and technologists.

·         Laboratory services management experience including design, development and implementation of high throughput and complex systems.

·         Experience in the healthcare delivery, pathology or biopharmaceutical clinical laboratory setting.

·         Proven experience of large scale biological sample handling.

·         Proven experience of operating a biological or other type of repository of precious and perishable assets.

·         Proven experience of responsibility for health and safety of others.

·         Experience of working across cultures and /or in a multicultural setting desirable.
