Ke`aki Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician. The position will be located at U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Frederick, Maryland in the Virology Division. The position requires U.S. Citizenship, a favorable Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) security clearance background check, and a signed confidentiality agreement.
The Virology Division conducts research to define molecular and biological characteristics of viruses and to understand the pathogenesis and host immune response. These studies lead to development and evaluation of prophylactic and therapeutic measures for viral diseases of military importance.
The Laboratory Technician will serve as a Laboratory Technician for the Viral Pathogenesis and Immunology Branch, Virology Division. The successful candidate will provide biological science laboratory, animal technical support, and independent management of in vivo and in vitro projects and be able to perform the following tasks:
- Have the necessary training and experience to perform virological procedures to include growth, quantization, preservation, and genetic characterization real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) of viruses in BSL-3 and BSL-4. Contactor will be able to assess neutralization of viruses by plaque reduction neutralization assay.
- Have experience to perform immunological procedures including enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA), western blot, and flow cytometry in BSL-3 and BSL-4.
- Have experience performing and managing animal studies in BSL-3 and BSL-4, which shall include observing and safe handling of mice, guinea pigs, and nonhuman primates; physical handling, treatment of, and monitoring of nonhuman primates, mice and guinea pigs; preparation of materials from animals for various virological assays (listed in 5.1); perform basic cell culture, plaque assays, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and other assays as needed to support animal studies; and perform CBC’s, general chemistries, coagulation assays and other clinical laboratory based assays on samples from animals in BSL-3 and BSl-4.
- Responsible for daily organization and operation of the laboratory data recording and data entry.
- Capable of performing experimental design, implementation, and data analysis of in vitro and in vivo experiments in BSL-3 and BSL4
- Responsible for assessing and maintaining laboratory supplies through normal branch channels.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. in Biology and a minimum of 7 years of laboratory experience OR M.S. degree and a minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience.
- The work experience must be a minimum of 3 years of experience in Biosafety Level 3 and Biosafety Level 4 (BSL3/4) laboratory containment.
- The contractor must be able to handling select agents, which requires maintaining enrollment in the Personnel Reliability Program.
- Enrollment in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) for handling select agents - he or she must maintain enrollment. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements as regulated by Army Regulation 50-1 (AR 50-1) http://www.fas.org/irp/doddir/army/ar50-1.pdf
