Under direction of Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) the Lab Technician will be responsible for performing laboratory testing, recording of results, the manufacturing and labeling of blood products, and assisting the CLS as needed.
Essential Responsibilities

- Perform testing of blood products using laboratory equipment and machines by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s) and other regulatory agency procedures.
- Run hematology samples and pH.
- Accurately record test results from all testing.
- Prepare and pack samples of blood collections for send-out testing.
- Perform Quality Control and preventative maintenance procedures of laboratory equipment as assigned, maintaining records in compliance with manufacturing and regulatory guidelines.
- Accurately process or manufacture platelets, red blood cell products, and leukopheresis products by maintaining untested products in quarantined storage areas until testing has been received back and product is ready for labeling.
- Accurately label blood products, including assigning labels and recording information.
- Accurately perform quarantine, destruction, and release of blood products.
- Accurately perform proficiency testing.
- Identify and troubleshoot problems encountered in assigned tasks and properly document corrective actions. Confer with CLS or supervisor for resolution of problems.
- Able to read, interpret, and understand company and industry manuals and compliance standards such as Standard Operation Procedure manuals, Current Good Manufacturing Practices, FDA and AABB regulations.
- Knows and follows safety rules relative to area(s) or responsibility. Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and external regulations regarding the products and procedures.
- Present a professional image to HemaCare customers, internal and external.
Education, Experience and Licensure
§ Blood Donor Center experience preferred.
§ Minimum high school diploma. College credits or college degree helpful.
§ One year general lab experience.
