For more information, visit www.cargill.com . Description Horizon Milling is a joint venture between Cargill and CHS, Inc. flour milling, with Cargill as the majority owner and managing member. Horizon Milling operates mills in the United States and Canada that grind durum wheat, spring wheat, hard winter wheat and soft winter wheat into flours. We produce bakery mix products for sale to retail and commercial bakeries, food manufacturers and retailers, government agencies and the export market. Our products are sold in bulk and also packaged for branded and private label. Operations are located in Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York, Louisiana, Kansas, Texas, Utah and California, United States and Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan, Canada. Position Overview: This position supports the division wheat analytical lab by performing analysis including, but not limited to, wet chemistry, experimental milling and baking, and bio-chemical analysis of wheat and the products of wheat flour milling. The technician will be expected to perform calibration checks and preventive maintenance on lab equipment, as well as perform other quality control activities. The technician is responsible for timely and accurate communication of results to internal customers (includes Operations, Quality Management, Technical Service, Merchandising and Technology). The Lab Technician must have the ability to work with a sense of urgency. They must have the ability to explain the significance of the results, and when inaccuracies are noted, proactively notify their supervisor and work together to identify the cause and take steps to resolve the issue. This position requires that the technician be certified in all tests they are performing and participate in internal and external cross checks to maintain certification. Principal Accountabilities: 70% - Prepare wheat samples for milling. Analyze wheat flour performance using wet chemistry, experimental milling and baking techniques, and bio-chemical analysis. 10% - Perform routine calibration and maintenance to maintain accuracy of test equipment 10% - Timely communication of results to customers using appropriate computer software 5% - Participate in evaluation of new instrumentation and development of new test methods 5% - Assist in other areas as needed Qualifications Required: Bachelors Degree in a Scientific Discipline Minimum 1 year of experience Demonstrated good laboratory techniques Effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point etc.) Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Baking, Milling Science or Food Science Previous laboratory experience in related industry Cargill is an EEO/AA employer.
