Exempt Position Description
Position: LAN Administrator Incumbent: OPEN
Reports to: Director, Information Technology Department: Information Technology
Install, setup, and monitor local area network (LAN), servers, end user workstation connectivity performance and support. Perform a variety of maintenance, monitoring, installation, and training tasks to ensure LAN and computing systems meet company and user requirements

Key Accountabilities:
· Administer network workstations, servers and associated infrastructure utilizing Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems, and variants of Linux.
· Administer email systems, anti-virus anti-spam services, firewalls, routers, switches, virtual servers and systems.
· Evaluate and/or recommend purchases of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software;
· Investigate user problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and implement solutions.
· Install, configure, and maintain personal computers, Microsoft network, Windows workstations, file servers, Ethernet networks, network cabling, and other related equipment, devices, and systems; Upgrades and configures peripheral equipment including modems, data storage, printers, and related equipment.
· Maintain site licenses for critical network hardware and software systems.
· Plan and implement network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users.
· Troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
· Assist users in maximizing use of network and computing system resources.
· Identify utilization patterns and the effect on operation/availability and performance expectations.
· Anticipate communication and networking problems and implement preventive measures.
· Establish and perform maintenance programs following company and vendor standards.
· Ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.
· Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability.
· Maintain confidentiality of the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.
· Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.
· Assist personnel of other departments as a computer resource. Provide on-the-job training to new department staff members.
· Other duties as assigned.
Background/Experience Required:
· Knowledge of a range of computer networking systems, operating systems and languages to include Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems and Linux variants.
· Knowledge of computing and network hardware and peripheral equipment. Ability to install, configure, and maintain personal computers, servers, networks, network switches, routers, firewalls and related hardware and software is imperative.
· Knowledge of computer and/or network security systems, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN’s, SSL cert management, network applications, procedures, and techniques including firewall configuration.
· Knowledge of/experience with Cisco IOS, switches, routers and firewalls, Sonicwall products a plus.
· Knowledge of/experience with installation, configuration and administration of Exchange 2007 required /2010 is a plus.
· Knowledge of/experience with VMWare VSphere 4 a plus.
· Experience with Great Plains installation, configuration and upgrades a plus.
· Experience with Raisers Edge installation, configuration and upgrades a plus.
· Experience with MS-SQL Server 2005, 2008 installation, configuration and upgrades a plus.
· Knowledge of/experience with Google/Postini email services a plus.
· Knowledge of/experience with IP Telephony systems a plus.
· Experience with Manage Engine Service Desk, OPManager, Log Manager a plus.
· Ability to identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
· Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
· Ability to provide technical training to end users.
· Ability to learn and support new systems and applications.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work requires extensive work using computers. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. and work around electrical and computer systems in restricted spaces. Responsibilities may require occasional evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported.
