Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth.  Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil.  We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
* Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray

Position Summary

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Engineering Lead is responsible for improving the day to day process operations by implementing advanced process applications and by continuously improving existing process controls. 

LEADERSHIP:

  •  Mentor and manage your team to facilitate their professional development
    * Take the lead on hiring, training and performance management to build and develop your team
    * Drive team activity and delegate and distribute workload to align activity with wider business objectives
    * Ensure budgetary and scheduling targets are met

    HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
    * Provide technical expertise, engineering consulting and troubleshooting services to processing facility
    * Determine best uses of technology, enabling operating units to run at optimal conditions of safety, capacity and quality
    * Initiate efforts to reduce energy consumption and increase economic productivity
    * Review process control designs, participate in HAZOP and risk assessments, management of change (MOC) reviews, provide commissioning and start up support
    * Monitor and report process control performance
    * Develop/assist in maintaining standards and practices
    * Remain aware of new technology and legislative changes especially related to process control and safety
    * Work with operations, DCS (Distributed Control Systems), E I (Electrical and Instrumentation), process engineering groups and other disciplines on a regular basis to define and achieve desired improvements

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    * Typically 15+ years of industry experience with an Engineering Degree
    * Registration with APEGGA or eligible for registration
    * Familiarity with and understanding of:
       o Process Control and Multivariable Dynamic Matrix Control, Process Inferential and Process Optimization Applications
       o Refining and/or Bitumen Processing and Upgrading Units
       o DCS and SIS (Safety instrumented Systems) systems, architecture, programming graphics and networks
       o Controls and instrumentation
       o Codes and standards as they apply to process control
