The Lead Lab Assistant (LLA) is responsible for directing workflow in the reception area, phlebotomy area, and accessioning area. The LLA is accountable for the training, scheduling and general leadership of the facility lab assistants, providing instructions and technical feedback regarding procedures and processes. All issues that require staff counseling will be documented and forwarded to the laboratory supervisor for appropriate action. Essential Functions: - Delivery of Service: - Coordinates scheduling of lab assistants, including breaks, lunch, approved time off and temporary replacement when needed. - Performs Lab Assistant duties as a part of the scheduled rotation and as workflow dictates. - Demonstrates extensive knowledge of and compliance with laboratory policies and procedures. - Serves as a role model for competency, efficiency and great customer service. - Directs workflow for all lab assistants in the facility for the delivery of service in areas of reception, phlebotomy, and accessioning. - Identifies/documents member concerns and uses customer service skills to deescalate problem situations. - Technical Resource: Participates in interviewing and hiring decisions. - Provides orientation and training for new lab assistants and for new or changing procedures. - Reviews procedure updates/newsletters and assures communication of changes to all lab assistants. - Provides documentation and feedback for staff evaluation. - Provides technical assistance with clarification of external provider orders and procedural questions. - Demonstrates proficiency in lab computer applications: CERNER, EPIC and Lotus Notes. - Administrative: - Facilitates wait-time and other special studies. - Organizes and maintains supply inventory for reception, phlebotomy, and accessioning areas. - Responsible for maintenance of equipment related to their service areas. Requirements
