Job Specifics: Lead Network Engineer
Location: Teterboro, NJ Type: Perm
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage all levels of engineering escalation and active management of incident management processes.
- Active role in the change management process, ensuring that all submission and execution controls are adhered to for operational changes.
- Provide guidance and requirements for the development of new technologies, tools, and processes.
- Generate tasks, monitor workloads and productivity, and work to maximize the effectiveness of the team.
- Troubleshoot network issues using sniffers and other network analysis tools.
- Evaluate current Cisco equipment and wide area and local network architecture.
- Review and analyze potential network features/components and new networking technologies to be incorporated into the network.
- Provide technical, infrastructure and engineering support for all network issues, project developments and business needs.
- Provide suggestions and technical expertise to IT Security team during decision-making and implementation processes.
- Provide support to data center operations regarding hardware configuration, operations, and maintenance.
- Interface with end-users, vendors or related support mechanisms for escalation/resolution purposes.
- Work with application developers on the UNIX platform for installation and maintenance in both development and production environments.
- Assistance and coordination of scheduled power-down and disaster recovery testing events.
- Provide support for disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Participate in environment planning meetings.
- Propose recommendations to improve the capability, operational efficiency and performance of the network within the organization.
- Ensure all network components, diagrams, and circuits are documented and kept current.
- Document configurations and develop policies, procedures, and standards for the management and monitoring of the network.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be a recognized leader with a strong understanding of tools, technologies, network engineering strategies and their implications on the broader business environment.
- Have in-depth knowledge and understanding of network infrastructure concepts and principles as a means of relating business needs.
- Strong leadership abilities, with the capability to develop and network engineer team members and IT operations personnel, and to work with minimal supervision.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: (Minimum Requirements)
- Bachelors Degree (B.A., B.S.) or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school preferred, or four (4) years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; equivalency years experience substitution must be in related field.
- Two (2) years’ experience managing a network engineering team
- Eight (8) years’ experience in network engineering roles
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS:
- One or more of the following certifications:
- Cisco Certified Network Analyst (CCNA)
- Cisco Certified Internet Engineer (CCIE)
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP
- WAN and LAN routing protocols: EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VRRP
- Ethernet switch technologies: spanning tree, STP
- Wireless network technologies: 802.11/ABGN
- Network authentication protocols: TACACS, RADIUS
- Network monitoring protocols: SNMP, Netflow, IPMon
- Implementation and management of QoS
- IP-based voice and video management
- NAT (Network Address Translation) and other complex access control lists
- Branch Office IPSEC (Internal Protocol Security) connections
HARDWARE/EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Cisco routers and switches
- Network multiplexers
- Modems, terminal servers
- Cable testing equipment
- Network taps
- Various wireless network technologies and associated hardware apparatuses, including 802.1, Gigabit, Fast Ethernet, Ethernet, ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network), Sonnet, T1, E1, T3, frame-relay, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line, ATM (Autosynchroneous Transfer Mode), and their supporting telecommunication technologies.
