Lead Stress Engineer

A vacancy has arisen for a Lead Stress Engineer at Airbus UK based at our Filton site near Bristol.

 

Tasks

As the successful candidate your principal activities will include:

¤ Carry out static stressing calculations to assess design solutions using standard hand and computer methods

¤ Interrogate drawing systems, create, compile and co-ordinate engineering documentation to achieve valid technical data for repairs

¤ Manage a mixed permanent and sub-contract stress team to ensure tasks are completed to time, cost and quality

¤ Liaison with Fatigue Damage Tolerance, Design and appropriate Airbus departments in Toulouse and Filton, to come up with optimum design solutions for the airline customer and to define maintenance programs

¤ In conjunction with the other members of the mutli-disciplinary team, ensure the customer services and product organizations are supported by creating and maintaining solutions to ensure all activities are completed within time scales to meet customer requirements

¤ Additionally, the role may include engineering support of all current and future static and fatigue test wings for repair, and ultimately the development of the stress team to be ready for EIS of all future aircraft products

¤ The engineer will be expected to liaise with the TWER Chief Stress Engineer in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments

¤ The Engineer will also be expected to support on-going local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through methods and process improvements

 

Skills

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and characteristics:

¤ Hold a relevant degree in engineering

¤ Proven experience in an engineering environment

¤ A background in aerospace engineering, with repairs knowledge

¤ An understanding of the fundamental method of analysis for static stressing and an ability to develop these methods

¤ Ability to liaise/negotiate with Design/Production, Customer Services and risk sharing partners

¤ Be conversant with the technical requirements for designing repairs

¤ The ability to translate customer requirements into operational deliverables and prioritise

¤ Ability to lead a team of Stress engineers

¤ Ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation, set objectives and prioritise to time, cost and quality

¤ Deliver integrated engineering solutions within agreed timescales

¤ Where appropriate, utilise and support strategic off-site engineering commercial partnerships to ensure appropriate resource capacity and flexibility

¤ PC skills and a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Powerpoint

¤ Good interpersonal and communication skills

¤ Working knowledge of all Airbus Structures would be a benefit

¤ Some knowledge of the application of FE analysis is desirable

¤ Good understanding of project management and resource planning

¤ Ideally the candidate will already hold stress approvals
