The position is responsible for completing Forms 1099, fiduciary individual income tax returns (1041), estate gift tax returns, charitable split interest trusts, foundations, exempt organizations. May prepare estate and gift tax returns. The incumbent ensures the integrity of client data by reviewing and correcting account and transaction data bridged from trust accounting systems to TrustEase.
- Reviews and corrects account and transaction data bridged from client trust accounting systems to ONESOURCE Trust Tax (TrustEase). Upon final review, Forms 1099, fiduciary income tax returns, tax information letters are produced for filing with tax authorities and mailing to individuals. This entails initiating and reviewing data scans and hard copy of account and transaction data. Incumbent uses knowledge of tax law and software applications to correct data in various ways, including modifying tax coding insertion of missing or corrected data.
- Prepares individual income tax returns, using data provided by individual clients. Process involves reviewing source data, making decisions with regard to income and deductions, and keying data to tax software. Prepares Forms 1099's and fiduciary income tax returns, including estate fiduciary income tax returns, charitable split interest trusts, foundations, exempt organizations. May prepare estate and gift tax returns.
- The Lead accountant lead special projects and/or small groups. Incumbent is technically strong and able to work independently on special assignments and to participate in internal external training and self study courses in order to enhance knowledge of tax laws and tax software applications.
- The lead accountant is expected to lead client relationships.
- College degree or equivalent work experience, a CPA a plus, with classes/experience in tax and/or accounting.
- Working knowledge of fiduciary and individual income tax law, including 7-10 years experience in preparation of fiduciary income tax returns, including a minimum of 1,000 fiduciary returns prepared on an annual basis.
- Proficiency in basic computer software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, ONESOURCE Trust Tax (TrustEase), Ultra Tax.
- Good verbal and written communications skills.
- If leading or supervising small groups, incumbent must work closely with immediate supervisor in transitioning into personnel management role if he/she possesses no prior management experience.
