Multiple vacancies may be filled through this announcement. These are temporary positions, not to exceed one year and are limited to 1039 hours in a service year. Area Information: Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty is the backdrop for this position. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks. Yosemite Valley is located 208 miles from San Francisco, 81 miles from Merced, and 94 miles from Fresno. Shopping, dental, medical, postal and laundry services are available in the park. Elevation at the Valley floor is approximately 4000 feet. The park is open year-round with the majority of activities occurring during the busy season from March through October. Housing Information : Government housing (some accessible to persons with disabilities) within the park MAY be available on a limited basis and assigned based on management's needs. Available housing units may include tent cabins, mobile homes, apartments, or traditional houses and housing/rooms will likely be shared with other employees, interns, volunteers, etc . Units may be rustic, located in wilderness areas, with few if any modern conveniences. Pets (other than service pets) and overnight guests are not allowed; units are to house assigned employees only. Nongovernment housing may be available for rent in the local communities of Groveland, Mariposa, Midpines, Bootjack, Catheys Valley and Oakhurst. Since its inception in 1916, the National Park Service has been dedicated to the preservation and management of this country's outstanding natural, historical, and recreational resources. Serves as shift lead for up to 15 employees. Leads other Traffic Control Aids and performs: monitoring vehicular traffic levels against pedestrian traffic; monitoring parking lots, directing buses and motor homes to appropriate parking stalls; closing parking lots when stalls are full; explaining regulations to park visitors and providing information and advice on park activities and cultural, historical, and/or natural resource history and location; controlling pedestrian traffic allowing vehicular traffic to continue. Conditions of Employment : Work is performed outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions. Work requires walking, and standing. Work requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over a rough and uneven terrain. Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid class C driver's license. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards. As a condition of employment, male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify that they have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under Selective Service law. In accordance with Executive Order 10450, any employee of the government shall be subject to a background investigation including fingerprinting. A favorable adjudication of a background investigation prior to appointment is a condition of employment and failure to have a favorable adjudication or refusal to complete the background process will result in withdrawal of the employment offer or termination of the appointment. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Total work under this temporary/seasonal position is expected to last from 3 to 6 months (not to exceed 1039 hours in a service year). Position may be terminated or extended at any time prior to the end of the projected season. Tour of duty will normally be 40 hours per week and may include periods of overtime work, holiday work, night shifts and weekend work. Positions may also be filled on a part-time or intermittent basis at Management's discretion. Work may entail emergency overtime. In addition to meeting the above selective factor, applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level, performing duties such as: performing routine clerical functions; monitoring vehicular/pedestrian traffic; monitoring parking lots; closing parking lots when stalls are full; explaining rules/regulations to visitors and providing information and advice on activities and location; and responding to general questions and inquiries. Experience is typically in or related to the work of the position described. Education may be substituted for experience: Four years of full-time equivalent post-secondary education (above the high school level) in any field is fully qualifying. A combination of education and experience may qualify you for this position NOTE: Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience (e.g., if you work 20 hours per week for a 12-month period you will be credited with 6 months of experience).
