The Lean Six SIgma Black Belt is accountable to provide technical leadership and training to Black Belts within a specific functional or operational area of the Company. Experience is sufficient to provide technical guidance and direction to assigned Black Belts. Possesses capability of supporting projects having generally well defined parameters. Ability to contribute independently on large and/or broad-based projects is still being developed. This level applies to individuals who have been selected for the Master Black Belt program, have initiated their Master Black Belt training and are working toward their Master Black Belt certification.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
- Provides technical leadership, mentoring and coaching to assigned Black Belts as part of their project management and personal development.
- Verifies that DMAIC methodology and tools are being properly applied to projects.
- Consults on Six Sigma projects with regard to project direction, financial and quality improvement opportunities and suitability as a Six Sigma project.
- Works with operating unit or department to ensure Six Sigma goals are being met.
- Conducts Six Sigma training and education for Black Belts and Champions following the Johnson Controls Leadership Institute model.
- In conjunction with the Leadership Institute and Project Champions, certifies Black Belts.
- Assists Champions in the identification of project opportunities and Black Belt candidates.
- Shares "best practices" throughout the Company and monitors Six Sigma projects for opportunities for cross-collaboration.
- Reviews project status with assigned Black Belts and Champions and provides counsel and advice on the use of Six Sigma tools and methodology.
- Assures assigned Black Belts are kept informed of new developments/approaches in Six Sigma methodology.
- Models the Six Sigma process in individual and group interactions and challenges current thinking and resistance.
- Looks for opportunities to recognize and publicize the accomplishments of assigned Black Belts.
- May lead projects independently or with the help of a Black Belt(s).
- Stays current with Company Six Sigma initiative and new process and quality improvement tools and techniques.
- Collaborates with Project Champions, Leadership Institute and other MBBs to develop and evolve Six Sigma training materials, classes, workshops, tools and methods.
The position can be remote from Milwaukee but will require at minimum 50% travel.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferably in a technical discipline such as Engineering, Mathematics or the Sciences. However acquired, strong math and statistical capability. JCI certified Six Sigma Black Belt. An essential personal quality is the ability to coach others where they can influence the behavior and skills of others while not taking the authority or confidence away from those whom they coach. Derives personal satisfaction from the success of others rather than or in healthy balance with their own individual accomplishments. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization. Previous success leading projects and teams. The capacity to teach (or to learn to teach) others and be seen as approachable, helpful and supportive by Black Belts and Champions. A strong interest in process and quality improvement and an ability and willingness to provide leadership to the Six Sigma initiative.
