Our Client
Our client is the world's largest restaurant company and International Division is headquartered in US with the Asia regional office based in Singapore
Our International Division is headquartered in Dallas with the Asia regional office based in Singapore. The Asia Franchise Business has an annual turnover in excess of US$4 billion and covers 14 markets across South East Asia, North Asia and Pacific Island.
The Position
- Support the Chief Legal Officer, Asia Region by providing legal and strategic advice to the businesses in Asia and overseeing all legal matters. The areas covered are general corporate, finance and commercial law transactions. The work includes negotiating, documenting and managing contractual relationships with all franchisees across the region as well as third parties e.g. suppliers, contractors, landlords, partners.
- Manage and resolve contractual disputes and litigation in partnership with external counsel.
- Provide advice and legal support to actions taken by regulatory authorities against our franchisees, and other crisis management.
- Implement and monitor legal compliance programs.
- Assist HQ with on-going development of policy and implementation e.g. corporate governance relating to international franchising programs and associated training roll-outs.
- Partner with HQ in conducting conflict searches and advising on the protection of intellectual property rights, particularly trademarks.
The Person
- A people-oriented person who enjoys teamwork and has high work ethics.
- Admitted to practice at least in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong or the United Kingdom.
- At least 4-6 years’ post graduate practice, preferably in a major law firm and/or in-house team in a multinational company.
- Strong experience and knowledge in commercial transactions, company law and corporate finance. Specific knowledge of franchising and intellectual property law is advantageous.
- Solution oriented and able to provide commercially practicable advice.
- Self-starter with a sense of urgency, able to work without close supervision.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to counsel and influence other departments, franchisees and suppliers.
