Roxby Downs is a young, vibrant and family oriented community. The town was built in 1988 to service the nearby Olympic Dam mining operation. The current population of around 4,500 people is set to increase rapidly in the coming years if the proposed mine expansion is approved.
The Roxby Downs Community Library is jointly managed by a Community Librarian and Teacher Librarian. The Community Librarian is responsible for the community segment of the library service and for ensuring the recreational, cultural and informational needs of the community are met.
