Job Description: The Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University-San Marcos is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Library Assistant II: Collection Development and Acquisitions Assistant. This position, reporting to the Monographic Acquisitions Librarian, is responsible for transferring library material requests from selection systems into the library's acquisitions system, ordering requests in assigned funds, and assisting with collection assessments, weeding and other projects. Funds assigned to this position frequently receive requests for specialized materials such as foreign language materials, materials from other countries, sheet music, musical recordings, art catalogs, and small-press items.
Required Qualifications: Experience or evidence of ability to read and interpret complex procedures; attention to detail and ability to distinguish subtle differences; ability to organize and prioritize workload; ability to prepare clear, concise, polite and grammatically correct email messages; basic math skills; interpersonal skills to interact effectively with library staff, faculty and vendors in person or on the telephone; problem solving and decision-making skills; basic skill using Microsoft Office suite including email, Word, and Excel; ability to keep orderly files, both electronic and print.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in an academic library and using an integrated library system such as III Millennium; experience working in library acquisitions and/or the book-selling industry; experience navigating and searching web applications and/or database systems; oral and written skill in at least one foreign language; background in music.
Additional Information for Applicants: SALARY AND BENEFITS: $1,972 to $ 2,332 monthly. Benefits include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program. No state or local income tax.
