Licensing Retail Manager
We are seeking an experienced Licensing Retail Manager to join our team in New York, NY.
Job Description:
The Licensing Retail Manager is responsible for managing the rights of the properties represented by the company. This individual will select, appoint and negotiate commercial terms and contracts with manufacturing licensees. He/She will manage the performance of the licensees in the market place; so as to optimize royalty income; extending the brand(s) into new product areas and markets with a particular focus on Soft Lines (apparel, accessories); strong retail relationships. The Licensing Retail Manager reports to Sr. Director of Retail Development.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Sign and develop licensing agreements for the company in the areas relevant to the brands represented
- Strategic planning and implementation of the brand extension/licensing program
- Building and managing partnerships with licensees, licensors and retailers.
- Ensure that deals (renewals) made are with the best partner(s) in order to maximize sales, profit and turnover of allocated brands/properties
- Liaise and communicate with team; providing regular updates to relevant people internally and externally
- Ensure that financial information on royalties and deals to be renewed is managed effectively
- Attend exhibitions, fairs and trade shows looking for trends and potential relationships
- Troubleshooting to ensure licensing brand extension program is managed effectively
- Overseeing the process from contract negotiation to product launch with internal colleagues
- Achieve and exceed set targets
Knowledge/Attributes:
- A strong commercial and strategic understanding of the licensing industry
- Understanding of brand licensing and relevant experience in soft lines categories (e.g., fashion, accessories, home decor)
- Ability to sell ideas and articulate vision
- Confidence and assertiveness; able to communicate at all levels.
- Passionate about the business and the job
- Team player, but able to work on your own initiative
- Strong attention to detail
- Category and product development timelines
Job Requirements or Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Business or related field
- A minimum of 5 years experience in the licensing or relevant sector industry (i.e. Licensee)
- Agency experience working in soft lines, fashion, home decor and other lifestyle categories
- Retail experience and relationships
Abilities and Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in MS Office applications including, but not limited to, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Negotiation, Presentation and Budgetary skills are required
