Life Actuarial Management Consultants

The Insurance Risk Advisory teams advise leading financial services organisations on a wide variety of risk, value and capital management issues. These range from regulatory requirements (Solvency II) to strategic risk propositions such as defining performance measurement and capital allocation (incl. cost of capital) frameworks, risk-based pricing frameworks, asset : liability management, legacy portfolio management, fund restructuring, reinsurance optimisation, balance sheet management, developing and implementing risk appetite and embedding associated risk management tools and methodologies throughout our client organisations.

We are looking for individuals with relevant experience who are able to work well as part of the multi-disciplined risk, value and capital management team. Given the current industry emphasis on Solvency II we would expect candidates to have a very strong understanding of Solvency II requirements (Internal Models, Use Test, ORSA etc) as well as having a very good appreciation of the challenges that Insurers face in responding to these requirements.

Essential skills:

- Insurance/Solvency II knowledge - significant experience in the insurance sector in a variety of senior professional roles. Preferably Life or non Life experience as opposed to re-insurance. Knowledge of Solvency II, its requirements and implications

- Programme Management/Delivery - Programme management and delivery experience. Able to articulate and demonstrate experience of programme design, sizing, resource determination, work stream design, governance, and benefits delivery

- Capital (and risk) Management - An impressive track record in Solvency II, Capital Management, credit, market, operational or business risk management, with an interest in designing, building, implementing or validating risk based capital solutions within a Financial services environment

- Strong intellectual and technical risk skills in the areas of market, credit, liquidity and life risk

- A good understanding of the role of risk management in helping an organisation achieve its business goals

- Experience of designing, developing and deploying relevant risk and capital Management Information, ranging from MI provided to the Board and other governance committees to execute their fiduciary responsibilities, to MI to monitor changes in risk profile, risk exposures, across all risk types, both current and prospective, at all organisational and functional levels

- BSc or MSc preferably in a quantitative/economics/business discipline

- Have exceptional overall communication skills 

- Possess strong people management and client relationship skills including inter-personal sensitivity and influencing skills

- Have demonstrated an aptitude to develop good client/internal client handling skills, including relationship-building skills that lead to increased consulting opportunities

- Have exceptional project and financial management skills

- Proven track record of delivering to budget and within time-scales is an important skill

- The ability and experience of working within a broader insurance environment and with vision as to developments at our clients and opportunities for consulting business

- Be strongly committed and invested to both personal and corporate success

- Good analytical skills, option identification and evaluation leading to solution design

Desirable skills:

- Capital Management – experience of consulting in capital management at a senior level. Experience would include understanding of valuation methods around asset and liability classes, asset : liability management, fund restructuring, balance sheet management, scenario planning and stress testing, model design and model testing/approval processes, specification of MI requirements relating to capital

- Business Performance Evaluation - Experience of developing or running the performance management processes in an insurer. Experience would include specifying the planning and strategy setting process, the KPIs incorporating business, and risk key indicators and their ongoing monitoring

- Embedding in core business process/change management - Experience of designing and leading the design and deployment of engagement and communication plans to obtain buy-in and implement re-designed business, risk and capital processes

To be considered for these opportunities you will either currently be working for or have spent time working at a Top Tier consulting firm.  We are looking for Consultants through to Director Level candidates and salaries are quite flexible to accommodate this.  Full or Part Actuarial qualification would be advantageous although not a pre requisite.

We will potentially consider qualified Actuaries from Industry however you would need to be able to demonstrate the ability to develop effective networks and to utilise these to win business.
