Skills / credentials required:
- Minimum 5 years experience with Red Hat Certified Engineer or equivalent experience in Unix/Linux systems engineering or administration
- In depth experience with, Red Hat specific, security vulnerability management and patching system (RH's Errata System)
- Complete and working knowledge of Red Hat's kickstart server deployment tool
- Fundamental understanding of network communication protocols and how to accurately troubleshoot their failures
- Thorough understanding of essential network services such as DNS, SMTP, NTP, IMAP, and SNMP.
The individual must be a team player that can work under pressure with good written and oral communication skills. He/she must be able to train others on various computer software and hardware.
Individual will support the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare System Command, System Center Charleston. He/she will be responsible for researching and evaluating Red Hat Linux OS solutions at government installations. He/she will then install and support the chosen Red Hat Linux OS solutions at government installations worldwide. The installation will require the individual to work in a team setting with the government site in regards to installation methodology, device configuration, site training and documentation. The individual will also be responsible for ongoing support of the government site in regards to problems encountered with the Red Hat Linux OS solutions.
Some projected job responsibilities:
- Development of puppet manifests for providing configuration management of deployed Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems
- Research and development for solutions to upcoming requirements for system availability monitoring and statistical analysis software
- Development of migration strategy from current Postfix based email system to Zimbra
- Deployment of RHEL based systems to the field
- System performance benchmarking and analysis in VMware ESXi virtual environments
- Day to day support operations maintaining security patches on all RHEL based systems
- Day to day support operations maintaining the VMware ESXi virtual environment
- Day to day support operations providing configuration updates to meet user requirements on all RHEL systems and services
Successful candidate is required to have a Secret clearance with the ability to be granted a Top Secret in the future.
- Experience with the Puppet Labs configuration management system
- Experience with the Cobbler kickstart management system
- Experience with Nagios network monitoring software
- Development experience in Perl, BASH, Ruby, or any other scripting language
- Experience with enterprise class OS virtualization platforms, specifically VMware ESX, XEN Server, or Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM)
- Experience with the Zimbra Enterprise Email Server platform
- Experience with NetApp storage arrays
