Alexander Black Recruitment is urgently looking for a Linux Senior Systems Administrator to join our high profile client.
Our client is a small global macro technology driven hedge fund. (no experience of finance is needed). They like technology especially the opensource variety as well as scalability and robust performance (much like their track record)
I am looking for a Linux Sys Admin who has a successful track-record building and running a strong infrastructure. They have a complex architecture and very high security requirements, so prior experience of this kind of environment is essential. I expect someone who keeps on top of the latest technologies (especially DevOps tools and methodologies) and who is prepared to take on the responsibility of keeping services running at all times. You will be expected to work across the entire software development and release cycle, from requirements gathering to go-live.
This position requires close collaboration with their software engineers in an effort to best align technical solutions with the schedules and analytic needs of various strategies.
The Linux Sys Admin will be responsible for:
- The provision and management of business-critical Linux computing systems including storage, compute and network components across multiple sites
- In-house infrastructure development and operation in Linux
- Continuous security review and infrastructure hardening
- Build and release infrastructure automation
- Virtualisation and VM management
- Network administration
- Essentially making sure there is sufficient server, network and data center capacity to react to changes in demand for compute, bandwidth, and power as needed by changing market opportunities and new trading strategies.
Candidates MUST have:
- At least 4 years’ professional system administration experience in a Linux/Unix environment supporting business-critical systems
- TCP/IP networking with a strong understanding of the OSI model
- Experience with network service troubleshooting and configuration; DNS, DHCP, NFS, HTTP, IMAP, LDAP, RADIUS, SMTP
- Experience with Linux troubleshooting and tuning utilities
- Experience with virtualization; KVM, VirtualBox
- Experience with routing protocols; BGP, OSPF, VRRP, HSRP
- Experience with network operating systems; Cisco IOS, F5
- Familiarity with wireless and virtual private networking (IPSEC, GRE, PPTP)
- PostgreSQL, MySQL
- Python, Bash
- Linux administration, especially Ubuntu or Debian
- Ideally NOSQL database management, especially Redis
- Ideally Build/deployment technologies, such as Maven, CMake and Rake
- An appetite for delivering solutions to complex problem
This role suits a candidate in the not in the banking sector looking for a move. You must be hands on and have excellent experience of networking in a demanding environment. You will also be a techie motivated by technology. In return you will be rewarded seriously financially.
