Job Description Linux System Administrator (Job Number:216739) Description: The Health Solutions Business Unit (HSBU) currently has a contingent need for a Windows and Linux System Administrator (SA). The candidate will support the VA-AITC in providing information processing services and products to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Informatics and Computing Infrastructure (VINCI) customer, to include system administration within Windows and Linux environments. JOB DESCRIPTION: The candidate shall function as a consultant to assist the VINCI customer in maintaining assurance of 24 x 7 availability, troubleshooting, and tuning to ensure acceptable response times. Windows and Linux Administration support in the form of advice and troubleshooting is provided to a wide range of individuals including customers, end users, programmers and analysts, System and Network Administrators and DBAs. REQUIRED SKILLS: The candidate shall perform the following types of tasks, including but not limited to: a. Plan, deploy, manage and optimize Microsoft and RHEL based enterprise solutions. b. Provide state-of-the-art solutions for high availability and fault tolerance. c. Install, configure, document and support Microsoft and RHEL Servers in an enterprise environment, including managing storage, setting up user accounts, securing and backing up the server, as well as other functions. d. Perform Windows 2003 and RHEL 5 Server Operating System installations and upgrades. e. Perform installation, configuration and deployment of new Microsoft and RHEL servers. f. Provide server security support using VINCI established security procedures. g. Support active directory tasks. h. Support Microsoft SMS. i. Support third party product server installations. j. Accurately report hours into a Time Reporting Application on a daily basis. k. Serve as a member of the VINCI Disaster Recovery Planning team and be available to perform DRP testing. l. The contractor may be required to lead VINCI sponsored initiatives. While leading such initiatives the SA is expected to lead team members, develop schedules and plans, communicate progress to management in both verbal and written formats, identify barriers, identify and evaluate alternatives. The SA will also be required to participate in fault isolation for database systems. The candidate's skills shall specifically include demonstrated expert technical knowledge of: a) Installing, configuring and deploying Microsoft and RHEL servers/clusters. b) Performing Microsoft and RHEL server/cluster upgrades and maintenance. c) Accomplishing server security updates following established procedures and guidelines. d) Windows System Administrator and Linux System Administrator. e) This position requires MCSE Certification. Qualifications: REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in related technical discipline and 3+ years of Windows and RHEL operating systems experience. The candidate shall be a Microsoft Windows 2003 Certified System Engineer administrator who possesses sound technical abilities and proven methodologies to produce superior system administration support services. Four additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Position requires US Citizen or US Person with the ability to pass a minimal background investigation and site clearance.
