Job Summary:
This individual will be a significant and leading technical member of the Product Engineering organization's Internet Systems Engineering team, responsible for developing the architecture for next-generation, advanced high-speed Internet services and applications. This individual will be responsible for conceptual development, architecture development, standards development, planning, and requirements specification, analysis of test results, detailed design, deployment and subject matter expert-level support.
The focus of this role will vary, from working as the engineering lead on future home automation and security services, to wireless products and services both in the home as well as in outdoor settings. They will also focus on other web-based and network-based applications that are a part of Internet Services. This individual must have the ability to understand business needs, working closely with product managers, and strike a good balance between business needs and technical implementations. This individual should also be able to assist in the professional development of more junior members of the technical staff, through mentorship, technical team leadership, joint work assignments, and related activities.
This individual will also be fairly autonomous and be expected to contribute to a wide range of high-impact projects across the organization.
Major Duties:
* Assist in development of architecture, designs, and deployment plans for home security products and services and home based and outdoor wireless products and services.
* Develop and deploy web and network applications and capabilities important to the delivery of a next-generation broadband service.
* Present and defend architecture, design, and technical choices to internal audiences.
* Develop requirements to be used by the vendor community to develop solutions to meet application needs.
* Evaluate various architectural solutions, implementations, and vendors.
* Establish and maintain productive relationships with peer organizations.
* Establish and maintain productive relationships with equipment and software vendors.
* Participate in standards bodies and organizations, including CableLabs and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
* Proactively identify other high-speed Internet services and/or capabilities that may be beneficial to customers.
* Develop test plans/cases to be used in verifying documented requirements.
* Participate in / oversee the testing and certification process as needed.
* Technical leadership mentoring of others in the engineering organization.
* Some travel required, must have a valid driver's licenses
* Other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills/Experience:
* Demonstrated ability to deliver the items listed in the major duties section.
* At least 5 years of engineering experience.
* At least 5 years experience with IP Networking (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT).
* At least 5 years of broadband and HFC network-related experience.
* At least 5 years experience with large-scale, highly-available customer-facing IP application services.
* At least 5 years experience with UNIX and Linux operating systems, such as RedHat and Sun Solaris, is required.
* Experience with DOCSIS and broadband networks is required.
* Experience with Home Automation and Security is a plus.
* Experience with Wireless technologies including WIFI and WIMAX is a plus.
* Experience with IPv6 is a plus.
* Experience working on new technology development, new technology trials, and new product releases is required.
* Demonstrated understanding of the software development life cycle and agile development is required.
* Demonstrated ability to act as work effectively with 3rd party technology vendors.
* Demonstrated experience building budgets and financial models to support technology plans and proposals.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
* Demonstrated ability to work with minimum direction.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries.
* Must be a flexible, resourceful, team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
* Creative thinking and critical analysis are essential.
