Teaching Matters, is seeking highly qualified educational experts (contractual position) to advise a new RD team charged with redefining a ground breaking teacher effectiveness support model for urban schools. Candidates must be committed to our vision focused on measurably improving teacher effectiveness to prepare K–12 students with critical-thinking and college readiness skills. To be considered, candidates require significant experience in collective capacity-building / PLCs for school improvement and pedagogical expertise in either Literacy or Mathematics.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Advise senior staff in our NYC location as we shape and codify elements of our collective capacity model for urban schools
- Pilot the model in selected schools, focusing on either Literacy or Mathematics
- As part of the R D team, provide feedback on the pilot and make recommendations for post-pilot implementation and scaling
- Recommend tools and protocols for successful implementation of the model
- Train staff on key pedagogical and/or content elements of the model
Consultants have the potential to become full-time staff in the 2012-2013 school year.
Expertise and Qualifications
- Strong theoretical, content and pedagogical background, with academic credentials/degrees in either math or literacy education
- Ability to apply theory to practical solutions for student achievement in high needs schools; candidate must demonstrate successful track record
- Experience guiding teacher teams in using student data to improve performance
- Ability to establish positive relationships with schools
- Strong plc expertise/coaching skills with teacher teams
- Ability to work both in a team of peers and independently
- Flexibility and comfort with ambiguity, given the nascent status of the initiative
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Comfort with technology as vehicle for school improvement
- Master’s Degree or higher in Education, Mathematics or Literacy
- Seven years of experience in K – 12 education minimum; Instructional leadership experience preferred
