Job Summary:
The role of Litigation/Corporate Counsel is to advise the insurance companies, through the Claims Litigation Director and senior management, relative to property and casualty matters. Litigation/Corporate Counsel is to study and implement standards and procedures. This position requires litigation experience with insurance companies, personal injury, professional liability, and property damage. Litigation/Corporate Counsel must be organized, an effective communicator, and possess excellent analytical, writing, and negotiating skills. Litigation/Corporate Counsel will interact with law firms on a nationwide basis and direct outside defense attorneys on settlement strategies.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Investigate, analyze, strategize, adjust loss reserves and expense reserves, and process files involving personal injury, professional liability, and property damage to achieve the best possible outcome.
- Advise the insurance companies, through the Claims Litigation Director and senior management, regarding coverage issues, factual developments, liability exposure, expense reserves, loss reserves and settlement opportunities.
- Communicate with pertinent individuals, including claimants, insured, retail agents, underwriters, independent adjusters, plaintiff attorneys and panel attorneys.
- Attend mediation hearings and settlement conferences, when appropriate.
- Review insurance polices and prepare reservation of rights and/or declination letters, as necessary.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Substantial legal experience with commercial general liability matters.
- Strong coverage experience
- Multi-State experience
- Solid computer skills, including technical competence with Microsoft Office
- Ability to travel.
Required Education:
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
Required Licensure:
- Active law license in good standing from at least one State.
