Job Description
Manage the planning, follow-up, and expediting of production parts, service parts, raw materials and transportation within an assigned section or group. Implement strategies, policies, procedures, and systems that lead to the ability to provide a high service level to manufacturing while minimizing the level of material inventory.
- For an assigned team, implements and coaches in the development of material management strategies that lead to lowest total cost in terms of inventory, lead time, delivery, service and transportation cost. Work with suppliers to develop economic order quantities, box quantities, change order lead times, period of supplies and delivery schedules. Work with planners to stay informed of market conditions that might impact deliveries from suppliers. Provide continuous updates to manufacturing on part issues and availability.
- Gains supervisory experience in coaching, developing and training the planners assigned by encouraging team work, the highest possible adhered standards and ensure the achievement of the assigned material planning objectives. Makes adjustments within the team considering workload and opportunities to achieve the highest level of attainment.
- Leads the effort and develops with other affected areas (e.g., Quality, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Service Parts, Logistics) complex strategies and direct high value purchases to those strategic suppliers.
- Keeps planning team abreast of market conditions, new developments and techniques of manufacture for planners’ commodities by maintaining close liaison with suppliers.
- Initiates, develops, and implements major cost savings in conjunction with Product Engineering, QC, Manufacturing, Service Parts and Logistics with implementation responsibility related to suppliers (e.g., JIT programs in Manufacturing).
- Leads teams in identification of opportunities to meet objectives for supplier deliveries, creation of value, supply chain improvement, and customer satisfaction.
- Identifies areas requiring process improvement. Initiates and leads team-based effort to implement improvements; ensure coordination actions with other Business units and Service Parts personnel to ensure consistent message.
- May manage and direct the activities of the Material Planning staff in a plant to achieve the goals of the Company in the most cost effective and efficient manner while supporting the corporate strategic objectives. Plans, develops, initiates, and administers specific goals and evaluation necessary for successful completion of projects within budgetary guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 6 years experience in material scheduling with several years of MRP experience or a related Master’s Degree with 4-6 years of work experience.
- Broad knowledge of manufacturing, product structures, ERP/MRP, material flow, and logistics.
- Advanced computer skills, excellent communication skills, good analytical and problem solving skills and a strong knowledge of formal, integrated manufacturing systems are required.
- A substantial amount of independent thinking and self direction is required.
