Machine Repair Job Description Summary: Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as motors, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment including, but not limited to the following duties. Duties and Responsibilities ?Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. ?Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. ?Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. ?Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. ?Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. ?Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts. ?Starts devices to test their performance. ?Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or Journeyman's card. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Must possess basic computer skills and proficiency. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to electromagnetic fields. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Maintains records of repairs, calibrations and tests. Performs schedule non-scheduled preventative maintenance on equiptment and systems. Maybe be on-call on a rotating schedule. Will have to work overtime and some weekends with short notice. SAFETY: Must maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards i.e.: Proper use of personal protective equipment. Proper use of safety devices; such as guards, lock-out, as required. Safe operation of all machinery, tools and equipment QUALITY STANDARDS: Must be able to understand quality standards, methods and reporting as required.
