Our client, a well-established and successful metal fabrication and heavy machining company, is currently looking for a Machine Shop Manager to join their Management team. Working for a company that offers specialized metal fabrication and manufacturing services to the North American market you will be joining an industry leader that is in growth mode.
The Role:
The Company seeks a skilled Machine Shop Manager to plan, organize, direct, control and evaluates the day-to-day operations of the heavy machine shop under the direction of the Director of Operations. Overseeing a Unionized team of up to 20 machinists the Machine Shop Managers mandate is to ensure the machine shop is running as efficiently as possible.
Specifically, the Machine Shop Manager will:
- Provide input to Sales and Estimating Departments on potential jobs and review quotations as required
- Supervise CNC programming and tooling requirements
- Implement and manage a workplace inspection system to achieve and maintain a safe and clean working environment
- Manage machine-shop stockroom to supply the necessary tools and equipment required to effectively machine parts
- Communicate with customers on a regular basis for all technical related issues
- Interactively manage the flow of work throughout the machine shop by ensuring the Visual Manufacturing System can accommodate the customers want date and that the resources are available as scheduled.
- Plan scheduled maintenance upgrades once approved
- Investigate NCRs and determine the cause and a corrective action plan
- Interact with Machinists and the Planning Department to identify and implement productivity improvements on all work
The Candidate:
Applicants for this role must have the following:
- Experienced Journeyman or experienced Engineering Technologist with significant industry experience, leaning toward Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years experience as Operations Manager in manufacturing with experience with large scale CNC lathes and Machining Centres. You may have managed a Machine Shop or been a foreman of a larger facility and now be looking to step up into an overall leadership position.
- Solid communication skills both written and verbal, ability to effectively organize and prioritize day-to-day activities and issues
- Ability to manage and motivate, lead and delegate the machine shop team as necessary to meet project deadlines
- Solid understanding of Health Safety as it relates to machine shop environments.
