Machinists/Tool Maker

Job Purpose:
Fabricates and repairs tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or hand tools by studying requirements; machining materials.

Duties:
* Develops tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or hand tools by studying blueprints, sketches, specifications, and descriptions; applying knowledge of materials, machining, and assembly methods and mathematics.

* Prepares stock for machining by measuring, marking, and scribing.

* Machines tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or hand tools by setting up and operating lathe, mill, shaper, grinder, and related equipment.

* Confirms tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or hand tools by comparing measurements to specifications using micrometers, thickness gauges, gauge blocks, and other measurement tools.

* Assembles tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, or hand tools by shaping, smoothing, and fitting parts with grinders, files, stones, etc.

* Resolves fabrication and assembly problems by altering process to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources.

* Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

* Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
