Maintenance Helper

Primary purpose: Under the general supervision of the supervisor and under the guidance of others as assigned, the Helper will assist mechanics and electricians in repairing/replacing valves, pumps, tires, and motors; In addition to performing preventive maintenance on equipment, tanks, roof, seals, pumps, and other related terminal equipment/machines. Essential duties and responsibilities: Perform simple assembly, dis-assembly, and repair work. Assist with basic repair of mobile equipment tires and replacement/refilling of flat tires. Clean tools and equipment prior to assembly or dis-assemble by hand or with pressure washer equipment. Load, unload, or move tools, materials, supplies, and parts to and from job locations by hand or vehicle. Lubricate and grease rotating and other industrial equipment/machines. Prep the work area where electrical and mechanical activities are to be performed. Work in other maintenance crafts or work areas as assigned to broaden general knowledge of preventive maintenance and other crafts. Observe and study blueprints, schematics, manuals-and techniques of skilled employees to acquire a basic working knowledge of electrical and mechanical crafts. Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns. Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork. Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Attend daily/weekly safety meetings. Perform any other terminal functions as trained, requested, and instructed by supervision. Position Requirements Minimum requirements: Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Experience / specific knowledge: Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles and procedures. Knowledge in the proper use and care of hand tools (various types of screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, ratchets, and sockets) and other related accessories such as measuring tapes, levels, etc and the proper use and care for common shop equipment/machines such as drill presses, circular and table saws, blazing and soldering equipment/tools, etc Certifications, licenses, registrations: Valid driver s license. Competencies, skills, and abilities: Ability to accept supervision/direction and work effectively and cooperatively with other people. Ability to carry and communicate over a company provided mobile radio. Must possess basic math skills in regards to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Must possess safety training and security certification as required by customers to work in their facilities and as required by all Kinder Morgan locations. Ability to deal with evolving operating conditions with few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to focus attention and follow work rules. Demonstrate aptitude to execute and maintain necessary records. Successful completion of background check and post-offer and random drug screens. Physical demands: While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces, and frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Employee must be able to work at heights up to 20 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Working conditions: Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required. Must be available to respond to call-out as assigned. Perform work in dusty environment and all types of temperature/weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the environment is usually loud. Must be available for assignments at multiple berths within a 12 mile radius. Supervisory responsibility: None Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position: Previous experience in an industrial environment as a helper in any skilled trade. General knowledge of terminals or other experience in handling, movement, storage, or blending of bulk terminals. Previous trade school training courses. Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, industrial hygiene, and other industry regulations.
