Position Information: Temporary, Not-to-Exceed 1039 hours This recruitment will be used to fill seasonal appointments. These appointments are not to exceed 1039 hours in a twelve month period, although positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Constructs, installs, repairs and replaces items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets. Applies premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board or wood surfaces using brushes or rollers. Paints various types of structures such as interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces, and a variety of wooden trim and new and old cabinets. Performs plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, unions and elbows. Patches and repairs roofs consisting of built up tar and paper, metal, as well as foam roofs and asphalt shingles. Incumbent will also perform custodial, laborer, and motor vehicle mechanic duties. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders and scaffolding. Exposed to dust, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects. AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: This position is located at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, which receives, approximately, 400,000 visitors between May 15 and October 15. The North Rim Unit of Grand Canyon National Park is 215 miles from Grand Canyon Village (4 hours by car). Elevation is 8000 feet, with temperatures ranging from -5 degrees in the winter to the mid-80's in the summer. During summer months, concession facilities are available, such as a restaurant, a small market, cabins and gas station. No schools are available near the North Rim. The nearest established community with a full range of services is Kanab, Utah 80 miles to the north. Temporary employees obtain housing either through a bid system or by assignment into shared furnished quarters. Because of limited housing, when an employees is assigned shared quarters, the park is not able to provide accommodations for family member and pets. Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook X-118C, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. A specific length of time and experience is not required; however you must be able to demonstrate the rough experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Examples of experience for this position include: carpentry, painting, plumbing, roofing, mechanic duties, custodial duties, maintaining buildings and facilities and some historic structures. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. You must meet level 2 on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements. Requirements 1.National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform. 2. Applicants must possess a valid state driver's license. This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid State driver's license is required. As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. If you are tentatively selected for employment in this position, you will be required to complete GSA Form 3607 and submit the above State issued documents.
