Manager - Distribution Center Department

Position Description:
Responsible for supervising and coordinating departmental activities, inbound or outbound, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the operation. Oversees associate work instruction and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a successful work environment. Sets example of positive leadership and teamwork by seeking out opportunities to maintain and enhance morale. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow through written and verbal instruction. Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures. Reviews and addresses individual productivity results with associates. Conducts associate counseling and disciplinary actions, addresses complaints and resolves issues and/or problems when needed. Maintains time and production records and prepares composite reports. Routinely observes the workflow throughout the department. Evaluates procedures and methodologies to improve efficiency and establish standards. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and the quality of product and service. Completes annual performance evaluations for department associates, and recommends promotions and merit pay increases based on associates’ performance. Meets and discusses priorities with other managers of departments to coordinate activities to ensure maximum productivity. Participates in planning personnel safety, training and building protection activities. Ensures safety procedures are followed and makes recommendations regarding safety issues. Ensures security of the facility is met. Strives for zero injury rate within the facility. Communicates with associates regarding pertinent information for daily event or seasonal issues. Ensures that required materials and tools are available and in working condition to meet the department’s objectives. Maintains and monitors a clean and safe work environment.

Required Skills:
Previous experience with a warehouse environment managing a small team or department. Strong management and leadership skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional organizational and planning skills. Proficient with Microsoft suite of applications, including Word and Excel, as well as the AS/400 system.
