Mission:

THE OBJECTIVE OF OUR MACHINE SHOP OPERATION IS TO MANUFACTURE MACHINED PRODUCTS IN A TIMELY MANNER THAT MEETS OR EXCEEDS OUR CUSTOMERS’ EXPECTATIONS.


Bottom Line Measurements:

1.      Safety Record -semiannually

2.      Customer Evaluations - Monthly

3.      Scrap - weekly

4.      Timeliness

a.      department  - weekly

b.      to internal customer  - weekly

c.      to external customer - weekly

5.      Productivity

a.      to standard – weekly

6.      Departmental Overtime Cost - Monthly

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Scheduling effectively.
    1. Minimize Setup Times
    2. Utilize Available Equipment
    3. Minimize Overtime
    4. Meet Delivery Obligations
  2. Leading your employees to produce cost-effective, quality parts safely and timely.
    1. Quality Parts are made to print in every respect.
    2. Ensure that rejection rates meet or exceed established goals for these rejects.
    3. Timely means machines are operated to standard, parts are processed thru the Machine Shop within standard, and are delivered to the customer on time.
    4. Manage the cost of departmental operations to the lowest possible level by insuring the following:

(1)    Materials are purchased at the lowest cost possible.

(2)    Materials are used in the most efficient manner possible, utilizing predictive failure to insure that quality production is maintained and waste is minimized.

(3)    Labor utilization (manning) is maintained at the lowest cost possible commensurate with the production requirements, and overtime is minimized.

    1. Ensure all your employees operate safely and within environmental requirements.
    1. Maintaining Necessary Documentation
      1. Publish Daily Production Plan
      2. Record Production results specifying quantity and quality
    2. Maintaining equipment.
      1. Ensure that all machines are available and operational when needed for production.
      2. Keep all work areas clean and orderly.
    3. Communicating Departmental Bottom Line, goals, and job responsibilities clearly.
      1. Provide accountability, feedback and training as needed.  This is especially true for your reports in supervisory positions.
      2. Ensure that all supervisors are vested with the appropriate authority to execute their responsibilities.
      3. Meet weekly with all departmental employees to discuss issues relating to the Department’s Bottom Line and to ensure that all your employees understand and are focused on achieving the Bottom Line.
      4. Meet regularly with plant staff to discuss issues and needs relating to the goals of the MACHINE SHOP, clarifying any questions related to your needs for meeting your Bottom Line and how they correlate with company mission and vision.

    5. Thinking of ways to improve departmental processes by innovating and economizing.
    6. Treat all staff respectfully.
