POSITION SUMMARY
Sony Corporation of America (SCA) is seeking a Manager, Accounting Policies and Procedures to join the Corporate Accounting team located in the New York City HQ. The individual will be responsible for working with SCA, its subsidiaries and Sony Tokyo in addressing technical accounting issues. This position will be responsible for researching and documenting SCA's accounting positions on specific transactions and will need to work closely with SCA's external auditors in their review of these transactions. This position will also be expected to work with Sony Tokyo in reviewing Sony's Corporate Accounting Policies (CAP) and assisting Sony Tokyo on technical accounting issues. The position will also work closely with SCA's subsidiaries to assist them in addressing accounting issues and review the related documentation that supports their accounting treatment. In addition, this position will also assist in the preparation and review of the annual goodwill impairment tests that are required by SCA's subsidiaries. This position will also assist Sony Tokyo on IFRS related issues and also work with Sony Tokyo in the implementation of a new financial consolidation system. The position will be expected to interact with all levels of management at SCA and its subsidiaries. The individual will also be involved in various special projects as they arise.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review all new US GAAP accounting pronouncements and work closely with the management of SCA and Sony Tokyo to assess the impact to Sony.
- Review Sony's CAP for all new accounting pronouncements and work with SCA's subsidiaries and Sony Tokyo to ensure that CAP is implemented properly.
- Work with SCA's subsidiaries to ensure the consistent application of US GAAP and CAP across the various Sony companies.
- Analyze difficult accounting issues. Prepare analysis and recommendations. Coordinate with SCA management and external auditors to arrive at sound accounting conclusions.
- Work closely with Sony's external auditors and other external consultants to ensure that policies address US GAAP and SOX requirements.
- Work closely with SCA's subsidiaries to address any questions regarding US GAAP and CAP and to ensure that such policies are implemented.
- Review and update the CAP and Financial Statement Closing Process ("FSCP") checklists, which are part of Sony's SOX requirements. Individual will be responsible for distributing, collecting and following up on the checklists with each of SCA's subsidiaries.
- Assist in the preparation of Sony's consolidated financial statements and the annual Form 20-F filing with the SEC.
- Provide technical accounting assistance for significant transactions and other special projects.
- Research and document accounting positions taken by SCA.
- Preparation and review of annual goodwill impairment tests for SCA subsidiaries.
- Provide updates to SCA management on new accounting pronouncements and exposure drafts.
- Work with Tokyo on IFRS related requirements.
- Work with Tokyo on the implementation of new consolidation system.
- Special projects as they arise.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Min of 5 years of public (Big Four) and private experience in financial reporting and/or financial policies and procedures (minimum of five years of public experience is preferred)
- Undergraduate degree in accounting and CPA required, Master's degree is plus
- Excellent knowledge of US GAAP and SEC Reporting requirements
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Proficiency with MS office and accounting system software
- Strong technical accounting skills
- Must be eligible to work unrestricted in the USA
