Travelport is in search of a Business Analyst Manager for a critical and highly visible commercial software product. This manager will be working as a member of a large, distributed team to deliver continual functional and non-functional releases for an exceedingly complex global product offering called the Universal API.
Description:
The Business Analyst Manager will use business, analytical, technical and organizational skills and experience to lead a team of Business Analysts supporting the Universal API flagship product. The Business Analyst organization is the primary liaison between the ‘business’ (Product and Commercial teams) and the software development organization for project requirements, product acceptance and problem resolution.
Responsibilities:
• Key liaison between the business and the software development teams.
• Manages BA resources to meet business demand. Forecast, plan and allocate BA staff to development stream efforts.
• Lead translation of high level business requirements into technical specifications.
• Train and mentor the BA team to the successful adoption and employment of best practices. Review project deliverables for quality and compliance.
• Support management activities including project estimating, budgeting, resource allocation and status reporting.
• Handle personnel management responsibilities such as career development and performance reviews.
• Advise the business and work with the Development Leadership and Enterprise Architecture to ensure technical design is fully vetted before handoff to development.
• Effectively communicate in writing and face-to-face presentations on project status to all levels within organization including technology VPs and Directors, Product team, Quality Assurance, Enterprise Architecture, Project Management and vendors.
• Serves as a subject matter expert and the liaison between technical personnel and non-technical personnel.
• Facilitate requirements capture and design sessions with the business and the software development teams.
• Defines use case models and realizations.
• Leverage requirements capturing and management tools such as HP Quality Center (Requirements Manager) and Extreme Planner.
• Align requirements traceability with testing efforts and defect remediation.
• Actively participate and/or lead demonstrations of new functionality to internal and external groups.
• Conduct analysis of customer problem reports to determine if bug/fix or design issues are necessary and recommend solutions. Must be willing to support Production and be available to react to customer incident escalations in a 24/7/365 global industry.
Leadership:
• Directs a team of professionals to ensure timely and quality execution of BA activities.
• Hiring and retaining qualified staff. Recruit, develop and retain top talent.
• Establish performance expectations. Drive results and managing performance.
• Must be able to prioritize and coordinate work assignments.
• Manage, mentor, train and review the work of less experienced staff.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong relationships in the product and technical organizations.
Position Requirements:
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field or equivalent experience
Required Skills:
• Enterprise or commercial software product expertise
• XML experience
• Web services, API or SDK experience
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, leadership, facilitation and conflict management skills.
• Ability to articulate information with management, staff, and outside entities through reports or presentations
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills
• Proven ability to guide, motivate and build teams influencing work product outcome.
• Obtains a deep understanding of commercial product structure and functionality and have the ability to reliably vet if product is working as designed.
• Proven ability to retain a professional and logical approach to tasks under challenging or time constrained situations.
• Requires 7 to 10 years of business analysis experience in an enterprise scale software development organization.
• Minimum of three years of prior supervisory experience and a demonstrated ability to lead a team, manage resources and quality assure BA product deliverables.
• Expertise in enterprise analysis, elicitation, requirements analysis and requirements management.
• Demonstrated success in applying Business Analysis best practices and techniques such as Use Case modeling and practical UML.
• Ability to prioritize tasks/objectives with strong organizational, administrative and analytical skills.
• Broad-based knowledge of business information systems and processes. Applied knowledge of standard SDLC methodologies such as rapid and iterative development.
• Experience working in a large, fast-paced project environment.
• Strong work ethic is a must.
• Proactive- Must be willing to seek out information and solutions that are pertinent to their responsibilities and key to their delivery.
• Team player attitude with a focus on the success of the team is a MUST.
• Proactively collaborates with other team members across global time zones with the upmost professionalism, tact and resolve.
Desirable Skills:
• Understanding of UML and the ability to articulate concepts using UML models
• SOAP UI
• Successful completion of formal business analyst training program is preferred, such as CBAP certification.
