Job Description:
Manager - Clinical Engineering
Imagine working for Rush University Medical Center, recently ranked as one of “America's Best Hospitals” and soon to open a new 14 floor state of the arts inpatient facility January 2012.
The Manager of Clinical Engineering is the primary administrative contact between other departments and Clinical Engineering Department. This individual will develop, direct, organize and manage overall operations and distribution of resources (staffing, budgets, outside vendor services) of clinical engineering equipment support services program.
Highlights:

Inform hospital management staff of operational and financial aspects of clinical engineering services.

Determine appropriate staffing levels to provide equipment support services

Identify areas where improvements can be made to maximize staffing resources

Participate in development of departmental and hospital-based continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Collaborate with department site supervisor and clinical engineers on projects related to new equipment acquisition, maintenance or removal.

Identify and implement training needs for staff Technicians and Engineers.

Administer Medical Equipment Management Plan to key performance measures
Qualifications :
-
Bachelor of Science in electrical, biomedical or clinical engineering or related technical discipline required

Documented attendance at two or more manufacturer services schools or management seminars

Ability to perform basic financial analysis, manage and calculate budgets, revenue and costs

Ten years experience in bio-medical or imaging service industry with at least five of those years in supervisory or managerial capacity

Knowledge of many different types of patient care equipment
-
Knowledge of electronic theory and technology

Ability to use basic computer software packages (power point, word processing, spreadsheets, work order tracking and inventory management, and databases)

Ability to evaluate maintenance and cost data related to medical equipment
-
Ability to evaluate equipment service needs and communicate with clinical equipment users on proper device use and safety

Ability to evaluate staff and outside vendor staff productivity and to ascertain quality of equipment support services provided by both hospital and outside vendor staff

Ability to lift medium-weight equipment and to walk, kneel, bend and reach while installing or performing equipment repair

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to write reports and make presentations on operational and technical issues

Effective time management and organizational skills

Equivalent combination of education, training and experience where the required knowledge, skills and abilities have been acquired may be substituted
Working Conditions: Possible hazards include exposure to electrical shock, infectious disease and various other hazards associated with clinical engineering work. Protective clothing and safe work practices are required.
