MAJOR DUTIES:
Network Fault and Management: The Network Operation Center provides 24 x 7 fault monitoring and network device management for the entire Authority. This service provides fault monitoring for routers and switches as well as other manageable devices such as DSUs, CSUs, and data services including Frame Relay, Point to Point, Ethernet, and Switched-Multimegabit Data Services (SMDS). Fault management provides for monitoring of any conditions out of the ordinary that may impact network or application functionality or has the potential to do so. Upon identification of a problem, Network Operations Center personnel contact department or appropriate internal support personnel as necessary and engage in immediate problem resolution leading to service restoration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to troubleshoot/configure Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN).
Expert-level knowledge of vendor and industry standard protocols, applications, and services and their integration.
Considerable knowledge of accepted industry Abest practices@ for network services configuration and design.
Comprehensive knowledge of network monitoring tools such as HP OpenView, Concord, eHealth, SiteScopre, CiscoWorks, and CiscoSecure.
Ability to network and device connectivity issues in a Cisco environment.
Extensive ability to efficiently coordinate and perform escalation of problems to tier-3 organizations and management staff, including outside hardware/software vendors.
Ability to efficiently coordinate and accept technical escalations from tier-1 individuals and organizations.
Ability to prioritize concurrent issues in accordance with WMATA-published SOP and SLA guidelines.
Ability to efficiently handle varied customer reaction.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Qualification Requirements

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Information Technology. Four (4) years experience with administration of UNIX (AIX, Solaris, Linux) and Microsfot Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 Server including:
Multi-domain models and trust.
DNS, WINS, DHCP, hosts and LMHOST configuration.
Active Directory management and troubleshooting.
RPC and name resolution troubleshooting.
UNIX and Windows connectivity troubleshooting in a firewall environment.
Experience with email administration and troubleshooting (Exchange 5.5 - 2003).
Expert-level understanding of industry standard Email and Window server security practices and architecture.
Experience mentoring and monitoring the performance of junior-level engineers. Four (4) years in a team technical lead role.
Or, an equivalent combination of post-secondary education in Information Technology. Seven (7) years experience with administration of UNIX (AIX, Solaris, Linux) and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 Server including:
Multi-domain models and trust.
DNS, WINS, DHCP, hosts and LMHOST configuration.
Active Directory management and troubleshooting.
RPC and name resolution troubleshooting.
UNIX and Windows connectivity troubleshooting in a firewall environment.
Experience with email administration and troubleshooting (Exchange 5.5 - 2003).
Expert-level understanding of industry standard Email and Window server security practices and architecture.
Experience mentoring and monitoring the performance of junior-level engineers. Six (6) years in a team technical lead role.
CERTIFICATION:
ITIL Certification required.
