Position Description:
SUMMARY:
Manage the Electrical Engineering team to deliver technical projects by driving through new technology, architecture, and designs for new and existing product to optimize efficiency, safety, quality and cost effectiveness. Coordinate scheduling of the EE, EMC and Safety group to support other project development teams, clinical engineers, service engineers, quality engineers, VV, test personnel, documentation, and operations groups. Provide Design and Electrical Engineering leadership on the patient monitoring platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Translates customer needs into Design Inputs; verifies Design Output meets Design Input. Design and review schematics and PCB layouts. Develop architecture for new concepts and coordinate activities with software, architecture, systems engineering groups. Work closely with Software Engineers in determining memory usage, timing constraints, component interfaces, sub-system integration. Work closely with Mechanical Engineering on thermal management, sub-system integration, and component interfaces.
-Preparing engineering cost estimates and project budgets. Conducting preliminary financial analyses for projects. Contribute to program planning and department wide process improvement initiatives.
-Perform System and Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) on new designs. Identifies component, device, and process potential failure modes and develops more robust designs.
-Develop test specifications and coordinate with Test Engineering personnel in the development and validation of new PCBA, system, and subassembly automatic test equipment or changes on current products and processes.
-Extensive experience in designing robust systems, conducting Hazard and Risk analysis, using reliability testing including Shock, Drop, Vibration, HALT, EMC, signal integrity (Ghz), stress and environmental analysis
-Coordinate all personnel involved in the design of the product including OEM, vendors, external development partners and contractors. Indentify and select the components, subsystems, and processes needed to maintain high reliability of products. Assist in sourcing, developing and qualifying electronics components, subsystems with suppliers. Proactively develops and maintains technical knowledge in specialized areas, remaining up-to-date on current trends and best practices.
-Improve existing product designs by utilizing problem solving techniques in the analysis of defects and addressing solutions, creating a robust product lifecycle management strategy, and implementing improvement initiatives
-Coordinate accurate and thorough documentation of project progress. Provides timely status/progress updates for new technology projects. Effectively describe technical situations and developments in both verbal and written formats at multiple levels inside and outside the organization.
-Establish Policies and Procedures for the Electrical Engineering Group, in coordination with the other RD systems Development leaders, to maintain a process that is compliant with FDA Design Controls, ISO 9000, and other standards and high level of performance of the Engineering RD Process.
-Responsible for developing and implementing new product through the adherence to established design control processes and good engineering and documentation practices. Develop a high quality hardware/software configuration management process. Conduct all required cGMP validation leading to full scale manufacturing operations.
REQUIREMENTS:
-MS Electrical Engineering required
-15 plus years experience in Analog (FE) Digital electronics design, analysis and troubleshooting in a medical device environment
-Ability to coordinate activities, plans, etc. between various functions including Program Managers, Software Systems Integrators, Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Clinical Engineers and Product Managers.
-10 years experience in a design and development field with a mastery of FDA, IEC 60601 and other IEC standards, UL, CE, ASTM requirements for patient safety.
-5 plus years in a management position with multiple direct reports and strong leadership, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
-Design experience utilizing high speed, mixed signal environment,
-Excellent miniature circuit and system development including power management (AC/DC, DC-DC, HV up to 5KV), FPGA and microcontroller interface, high pin count BGAs, ASIC circuit design, microprocessor hardware for signal measurement and processing, battery and motor design, connector and flex circuits
-Extensive use of Hyperlynx and PSPICE to resolve signal integrity issues.
-Competent in use of Mentor Graphics schematic and layout tools, MATLAB, Microsoft Office software
