SUMMARY AND SCOPE:
Position will be responsible to develop and implement activities which offer an unemployment bridge for qualified referrals. This will be accomplished by managing coordination, training and placement of volunteers with nonprofit agencies, schools and in the community. The two primary goals are to increase nonprofit organizational capacity through effective mobilization of volunteers and to offer meaningful opportunities where volunteers can maintain existing skills or develop news ones. The position will be responsible for training nonprofit partners and participating volunteers and tracking, verifying and reporting volunteer participation. This is a grant funded position through December 2013.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develop and manage the HoosierCorps program activities by engaging volunteers in community volunteer projects that address one of seven priority areas, with a focus on: Economic Opportunity, Education, Family Services and Disaster Services.
- Assess volunteer abilities and experience and match volunteers with opportunities that allow them to maintain or develop skills.
- Catalog and update community volunteer opportunities at nonprofit agencies, schools, and other community partners in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan, Shelby and Johnson Counties.
- Verify volunteer participation and generate reports related to program activities.
- Serve as liaison between the Volunteer Center and the Office of Faith Based Initiatives in administering the HoosierCorps program activities.
- In collaboration with marketing staff, develop and implement appropriate marketing strategies to promote the HoosierCorps Program to appropriate nonprofit agencies, schools and other community partners.
- Maintain and update needed promotional items, including marketing brochures, application materials, product sheets and other printed materials.
- Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with volunteers to better determine appropriate placements, volunteer satisfaction and other information.
- Develop and conduct surveys, evaluations, and other outcome measurements for volunteer programs. Determine baseline data and multi-year desired outcomes.
- Calculate and track volunteer statistical data, including HoosierCorps statistics. (Numbers of volunteer hours served, numbers of individuals in the program, number eligible to participate, number successfully completing)
- Organize, develop, manage and train large groups of volunteers and provide an exemplary degree of customer service.
- Coordinate volunteer placements scheduling using online database software.
- Maintain Volunteer Opportunities on the Volunteer Center website and in Volunteer Solutions.
- Coordinate with nonprofit agencies to secure, maintain and promote current volunteer opportunities.
- Promote a cooperative spirit within the organization and among internal and external United Way participants.
- Develop volunteer-centered initiatives, including partnership development, process planning and implementation
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in the non-profit sector or volunteer program management required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be able to plan, develop, implement, follow-up, evaluate and budget successful projects. Must be able to train and prepare volunteers for various roles and responsibilities. Must have experience teaching or presenting to large groups. Demonstrated and effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required. An understanding of staff and volunteer roles desired. Must be self-motivated, self-directed, able to handle multiple tasks, manage time efficiently, prioritize responsibilities, willing to take strategic risks and assume responsibility while working independently with minimal supervision. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
