Job Description:

Manage the Lower Yellowstone Irrigation Project that provides irrigation water to farms in the Yellowstone River Valley in eastern Montana and western North Dakota.  Physical features include a diversion dam and diversion works; about 400 miles of water distribution and drainage waterways; and numerous water control structures serving 1500 farmunits on 56,000 irrigable acres in the Yellowstone Valley. The location is from 15 miles northeast of Glendive, MT to near the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers. Lower Yellowstone Irrigation Project Board of Control is a controlling agent for 4 irrigation districts in the area.  The Project headquarters is in Sidney, MT.

 

Job Duties, include but are not limited to:

·         Hiring and directing a work force of 20 workers.

·         Establish and maintain a sound financial structure for LYIP and associated irrigation districts.

·         Develop work programs and create and administer water policy.
With the aid of an Assistant Manager and Watermaster, perform the operation and maintenance duties  Provide assistance to waterusers in water conservation efforts
 Establish work programs for immediate and future Project needs. 

·         Provide engineering services including surveys, designs, and construction supervision.

·         Interact and work closely with city, county, state and federal agencies involved in the Project welfare.

·         Prepare and update a water conservation plan and administer water conservation projects   

Meet quarterly or monthly with the Project's irrigation districts' board of commissioners


Minimum Qualifications:

·         Familiarity desired  in irrigation district management or very similar related field that includes business management and technical work in hydrology and structure design.

·         2 years secondary education in engineering type discipline and construction work desired.  A BS degree is desirable.

·         U.S. Citizen or National. Valid state drivers license.

 

Other Knowledge and Skills:

·         Must be able to communicate and work effectively with a board of directors.

·         Oral and written communication skills to deal with waterusers, agencies, and others.

·         Experience in writing grant applications, planning reports, RFP's, policies, and more.
