Role Purpose
The role of Manager - Metals and Mining GEM (Global Economic Model) is high-profile both internally and externally and influential in Wood Mackenzie achieving its goals. GEM is a very important revenue generator for Wood Mackenzie as well as a key internal business system. The purpose of the role is to grow our existing Coal and Iron Ore GEM offerings and expand coverage to include other Metals covered by Wood Mackenzie.
The role involves maintaining and enhancing GEM with the aim of maximising long term sustainable revenue, developing key client relationships, and supporting the internal community of analysts and consultants including enhancing their GEM, valuation and fiscal knowledge. The development of a new GEM module for Metals will be a major focus of the role initially.
To ensure success, the Manager - Metals and Mining GEM will have extensive interactions with a number of important internal stakeholders including sales and account management, marketing, technology, client training and in particular the Mining and Metals Research teams. He or she will be expected to work closely with the Upstream Oil Gas GEM team to ensure cross-sector best practice while also tailoring the product to suit the needs of metals and mining clients.
Initially, the role does not involve any line management responsibilities. However, it is anticipated that as the Metals and Mining GEM offerings and client base develops, the team will expand commensurately.
Production, Delivery and Support of Metals Mining (MM) GEM Product (approx. 60% of role)
- Work with the Head of Valuation and the Metals Mining Research Team to develop our GEM offerings for the MM sector
- Ensure that the Fiscal Models in GEM for Coal, Iron Ore and Metals GEM are of a high quality. Ensure that processes are in place to maintain and enhance quality and support the delivery of the Fiscal Models and GEM software.
- Management of GEM Development projects by understanding client needs, maintenance of enhancement lists, prioritisation of requests, development of internal business cases and project management of development projects.
- Overall responsibility of quality of GEM, timeliness of delivery of quarterly CDs and timely resolution of issues.
GEM Business and Relationship Development. Client Support and Training (approx. 40% of role)
- Identify key targets for GEM sales and work with client managers to assist in promoting GEM sales across the world.
- Establish relationships with key existing users to increase usage and value to clients which in turn will encourage renewal of subscriptions and enhance prospects of increases in existing subscriptions.
- Work with marketing to ensure maximum impact of marketing literature and campaigns.
- Provide valuation GEM support and training for internal and external clients.
- Support internal training of Wood Mackenzie analysts in the application of valuation concepts to their research and consulting roles.
The role demands strong valuation skills and the ability to make senior level presentations. The candidate should also demonstrate the strong project management skills necessary for the continuing development of the product. The ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge of the metals and mining industry, knowledge of the kind of products and services that Wood Mackenzie develops and sells, and extensive experience in a commercial/ valuation role.
