ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

a. Manage work assignments
b. Develop and track development schedules and budgets

7. Insure quality of work done by group

10. Insure technical requirement specifications which provide details of drive/power systems functions are complete and reviewed with customers
11. Insure that test procedures for systems are written, and tests carried out accordingly
12. Provide groups support to field engineering team for technical assistance and design support during start up and commissioning of equipment .
13. Provide groups support to sales department by writing technical specifications for proposals and providing technical presentations to customers
JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
POWER SYSTEMS:
• Review/direct medium voltage and low voltage power systems. Generate single line power system drawings, and define system components including switchgear, transformers generators and harmonic filters.
• Review/direct power systems studies, produce associated detailed reports, and interface with customer to review these studies and reports.
• Studies referenced above include some or all of the following: Load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, harmonic studies, and/or protection coordination studies.
• Review/direct detailed procurement, design and/or build specifications for some or all of the following equipment: switchgear, distribution panels, transformers, and harmonic filters.
• Interface with equipment vendors on technical issues.
• Review test specifications for power system components.
• Direct/review commissioning procedures, which would include the settings for protective relays and other programmable devices.
• Must work well in a multi-disciplined project team, and provide technical advise and assistance to the engineering department as well as to the sales, marketing and contract management teams.
DRIVE SYSTEMS
• Review power and control hardware and software for low and medium voltage drive systems.
• Review component sizes for circuits associated with packaged power electronics drive system
• Review ratings for given applications and write technical specifications for power system equipment such as transformers, switchgear, drives, dynamic breaking resistors, and motors.
• Manage transformer, switchgear, motor and drive ancillary equipment vendors to ensure compliance with technical specifications, customer requirements and relevant industry standards.
• Act as main interface to customer to establish customer requirements and provide customer with technical information as required.
• Direct/review factory testing and commissioning instructions and provide support to the factory test group as needed.
• Provide technical support for commissioning testing departments
• Provide technical support to the sales group for proposal development.
• Develop presentations for clients.
• Ensure consistent application of engineering standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• BSEE or related field required, MSEE preferred.
• 5+ years experience in Drive / Power systems. Experience leading teams preferred.
• Knowledge skills and abilities should be appropriate to the seniority of the position. In addition the follow is expected:
• Knowledge of marine systems, including electrical and diesel mechanical propulsion, electrical power distribution and power management, auxiliary ship systems, integrated bridge controls, dynamic positioning, and damage control systems.
• Knowledge of, typical drive parameterisation packages, and power systems packages such as SKM, as well as analysis tools such as Mathcad and Malab.
• Broad knowledge of precedents, principals and practices used in the design of power conversion equipment.
