As the Manager of Accounting – United Way Store you will be directly responsible for all general accounting for United Way Store (UWS), a wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary of United Way Worldwide. United Way Store’s purpose is to provide sales fulfillment services to local United Ways, United Way Worldwide, and other organizations. United Way Store is the official source for United Way products.

As the Manager of Accounting you will be responsible for performing general ledger activity, including the month-end and year-end close; ensures timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts; prepares financial statements and financial analysis (for management review and for presentation to the Board of Directors); provides assistance with the United Way Store/United Way Worldwide annual audit and supports the overall accounting process. Assists with the management of the cash and banking functions. Prepares the annual budget for United Way Store. Must be knowledgeable of generally accepted accounting principles and a solid background with financial accounting standards.

As the Manager of Accounting you will report directly to the United Way Worldwide Director of Financial Reporting and indirectly to the President of United Way Store.

Key duties/responsibilities:

1. Provide accounting guidance to UWS President, IT Manager, Purchasing Manager, and Customer Service Manager, relating to transactional entries and query development for Natural Solutions operating modules on an as needed basis.

2. Provide assistance in the coordination of the annual independent audit and preparation of tax returns by a third party.

3. Manage sales tax reporting and remittance.

4. Prepare and monitor the annual budget and cash flow projections at the direction of the UWS Company President.

5. Manage credit card, investment, and banking relationships; perform annual renewal of insurance policies.

6. Prepare financial statements and related analysis; ensure the accuracy of data and adherence of the system to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and internal policies and procedures.

7. Prepare or collect and maintain all balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries and inter-company reconciliations; reconcile bank accounts monthly.

8. Review and code all accounts payable vouchers.

9. Analyze and create correcting/adjusting entries regarding daily inventory adjustments; manage year-end physical inventory.

10. Maintain fixed asset records, record depreciation and the disposal of fixed assets.

11. Manage the retirement plan activity; coordinate the preparation of the Form 5500 with United Way Worldwide Human Resource Department and the third party preparer.

12. Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:
Bachelor degree in Business, Finance or Accounting. CPA or advanced degree preferred.

Experience Required:
At least three to six years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a retail organization. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, as well as excellent customer service skills are a must. Requires solid financial reporting knowledge, skills and abilities. Proficiency with Natural Order accounting software is preferred. Occasional travel as needed (Natural Solutions User conference), Physical inventory.
